Art for me is all about seeing things in a different way. The world can become a very simple place when you see it as nothing more than lines, shapes of color, and changes in value. Art is all about simplifying what we see, capturing the beauty that exists in that simplicity. That's art to me, and that's what I try to do with my art. Enjoy!

Value Study, back alley behind Dave Dornan's building in Helper
This is a value study done in a mix of ultramarine, yellow ochre, and alizarin crimson. The idea behind this is to match your values as exactly as possible to what you are seeing. Once you have done this, you can then color match over the top of the painting by matching your values and color. If you have the underpainting like this exact, you have won half the battle and it makes painting the rest of the painting much easier to finish.

It was great meeting you in Helper Jordan. You did some really nice work here, and I'll be watching your progress as you go forward with your studies and art career. What happened to Spain?
